Marcus's Second Chance

Military Veteran • Studio apartment in veteran housing complex

"After serving my country for eight years, I found myself homeless. The EBC Homes Program helped me reclaim my dignity and rebuild my life."

From Service to Struggle

Marcus served two tours in Afghanistan as an Army medic before returning home with PTSD and physical injuries. Despite his military benefits, he struggled to find stable employment and housing, eventually becoming homeless for six months.

"I went from saving lives overseas to sleeping in my car. The transition back to civilian life was harder than any mission I'd been on. I felt like I'd lost my purpose and my identity."

Finding Brotherhood

At a veterans' support group, Marcus learned about the EBC Homes Program's specialized services for military veterans. The program offered not just housing assistance, but also mental health support and job training specifically designed for veterans.

"The case worker was a veteran himself. He understood what I was going through without me having to explain. That connection made all the difference."

Rebuilding with Purpose

Through the program, Marcus secured a studio apartment in a veteran-specific housing complex and enrolled in a medical technician certification program. The supportive community environment helped him address his PTSD while building new skills.

"Living around other veterans who understood my experiences was healing. We looked out for each other, just like we did in the service."

Serving Again

Today, Marcus works as a medical technician at a local hospital and volunteers with the EBC Homes Program to help other veterans navigate their housing journey. He's also pursuing his bachelor's degree in social work.

"I learned that asking for help isn't a sign of weakness – it's a strategic move. Now I help other veterans understand that they've earned the right to support, and there's no shame in using the resources available to us."
